“ Indians are beastly people “ Indians are beastly people with beastly religion ’’ with beastly religion ’’ -winston churchill
The bengal famine isone of the worst massacre in the history of india. Initially caused by the cyclone and later engineered by the britain empire. India exported more than 70,000 tonnes of rice between January and July 194 even during famine. This would have kept nearly 400,000 people alive for a full year. the food grains were taken from indians to keep back up for Britains world war fighting soldeirs, while Indians starved to death.
Churchills racial haterdness was so evident that He even refused the help from America and australia. ‘‘ Its their fault that they breed like rabbits’’ was his reaction for the Indians who starved to death. The famine was so horrrible that mothers used to drown their children in order to prevent them dying the slow and painful death. the streets were full of dead bodies since no one really had the strength to burn or even lift those. Around 4 million people died while churchi was being hailed as saviour of humanity in the west. churchills haterd towards Indians doesnt ends their. his infamous reaction in which he said “ If indians are dying then why is gandhi alive’’ should be enough to decide the amount of disrespect he had towards indians. John Colville head of Bomber Commanddiary entry of 23 February 1945 records Churchill’s thoughts about the Hindus in which it said churchill said that The Hindus were a foul race “protected by their mere pullulation from the doom that is their due” and he wished Bert Harris could send some of his surplus bombers to destroy them.
Churchill once wrote that he hate Indians. He said indians are beastly people with beastly religion. his racial remarks were not only limited to India, countries like china, Ireland, palestine were also suffered. But the bengal famine was one of the biggest hit for India. For India Churchills actions were nowhere lesser than than the tyranny of Hitler towards jews. Bengal famine was the gift of british empire for India’s contribution in the world war 2 in which around 87000 indian soldiers sacrificed their lives. The contribution goes unnoticed till date. Indians life was treated as worthless as such huge massaacre never made big headline in the international stage. Churchill may be the legend for brits. But for INdians he was no less than hitler.
